The heyday of the mines of Predoi was over 600 years ago when the rare smoothness of the copper mined in Predoi was sought after. But up until the 20th Century, Predoi still remained the third-largest source of copper in Italy. Today, a mine train travels down into the heart of the mountain, home to the climate tunnels, a rare place where people with respiratory afflictions can enjoy the benefits of speleotherapy.
