The Lagundo Waalweg path

The Lagundo Waalweg path ends in Quarazze, a western district of the city of Merano and only a few meters away the Tappeinerweg way begins, once of the most beautiful promenades in Merano. The path was named after Franz Tappeiner, who was a famous doctor in Merano. During the 19th Century, this same surgeon and visionary helped shape the small city of Merano into becoming the internationally recognised spa city it is today. The Tappeiner Promenade, still in use today, is one of the gifts he donated to the city. The many spa tracks are part of an outdoor treatment program. This form of treatment was used during the 19th Century in the handling of circulatory disorders, heart defects and obesity.
